Distance Reiki: what an online session is like

05-Sep-2026

"How can Reiki work if you're not in the room?"

It is a fair question, and one I asked myself when I first learned about distance healing. Here is what distance Reiki is, what a session with me looks like, and what you might feel.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle Japanese healing practice developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Rei is often translated as "universal" and ki as "life energy". In a Reiki session, the practitioner acts as a channel for this energy, helping the body and mind relax and rebalance.

Many people come to Reiki when they feel stressed, anxious, drained or unsettled, or simply want to feel calmer.

How can it work at a distance?

In Reiki practice, energy is not limited by physical distance. From the second level of Reiki training onwards, practitioners learn to send healing with focused intention, much as a prayer for someone works regardless of where they are.

You don't need to believe in anything for a session. Just come with an open mind and allow yourself to rest.

What happens in a session

The four steps of a distance Reiki session on Google Meet: we talk, you settle, healing, and we reflect
  1. We talk first. On Google Meet, you tell me how you've been feeling: physically, emotionally, anything on your mind. This helps me understand where to focus.
  2. You settle in. Find a quiet, comfortable spot where you won't be disturbed, and simply relax.
  3. The healing. For the main part of the session I send Reiki while you simply rest. You don't need to do anything.
  4. We talk again. Afterwards we chat about what you noticed, and I share anything I felt and a few simple suggestions for the days ahead.

What you might feel

Everyone's experience is different. People often describe:

  • Deep relaxation, or even falling asleep
  • Warmth, tingling or a gentle heaviness
  • Emotions coming up and being released
  • A clearer, lighter mind afterwards

Some people feel very little during the session and notice a difference later, sleeping better or feeling less on edge. All of these are normal.

How to prepare

  • Choose a quiet room and let your family know you shouldn't be disturbed.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and keep a glass of water nearby.
  • Put your phone on silent (apart from the call).
  • Afterwards, take it easy. Drink water, and give yourself a little quiet time if you can.

An important note

Reiki is a complementary practice. It supports your wellbeing alongside medical care; it doesn't replace it. Please keep taking any medicines and following any treatment your doctor has advised, and see a doctor for any health concern.

Would you like to try it?

If you've been feeling stressed, drained or out of balance, a distance session is an easy way to experience Reiki from the comfort of home, wherever you are in the world. You can book a Reiki healing session whenever you're ready.
