Ancestral healing: recognising the blessings and the blockages in your lineage
05-Oct-2026
We carry more from our families than our surname. We inherit strengths, talents and resilience, and sometimes we also inherit patterns: around money, relationships or emotion, that repeat until someone notices them. Ancestral healing is the gentle work of honouring the first and releasing the second.
Five signs you are living in ancestral blessings
- You feel guided without logic. You simply know when to act or stop. Sudden clarity, dreams and gut feelings can be ancestral intuition awakening. Messages often arrive when you are silent, not when you chase answers.
- You are drawn to healing, teaching or protecting roles. Tarot, Reiki, law, education, medicine, counselling, spirituality and leadership can be lineage callings. In tarot, this is Hierophant and High Priestess energy.
- Old family patterns end with you. You refuse to repeat emotional pain, financial karma or relationship wounds. You are the cycle-breaker.
- You feel deep emotion around temples, old places or rituals. Goosebumps, tears, calm. Your soul remembers what your mind doesn't.
- Life pushes you towards purpose, not comfort. Delays, breakups and career shifts redirect you to your path. In numerology, strong 7, 9, 11 or 22 energy often points to an ancestral mission.
Gratitude affirmations. Pause for a second or two after each line:
- "I honour the wisdom and sacrifices of my ancestors."
- "I receive my ancestral gifts with humility and love."
- "What my ancestors could not heal, I now release."
- "Their blessings flow through me effortlessly."
- "I walk forward protected, guided and supported."
Crystals that support ancestral work: labradorite for intuition, smoky quartz for grounding, black obsidian for protection and shadow work, moonstone for feminine lineage wisdom, and clear quartz to amplify prayers. Keep one near family photographs or your altar.
Pick a card: the blockages you came to heal
Some patterns in a lineage feel like blockages, or what people call curses. I prefer to see them as unfinished work, and you can be the catalyst who finishes it. In this reading, choose Card 1 or Card 2 before you watch.
This second reading looks at one blockage you have come to resolve. Choose a card, listen to the end, and work on the advice for a few weeks.
Healing generational patterns during Pitru Paksha
The angel guidance I received was that recovering from generational blockages needs aligned action: selflessness, and sharing your knowledge. During Pitru Paksha you can practise:
- Pitru tarpan: feeding your ancestors by offering food to crows, cows, dogs and ants.
- Donation to people in need and to the elderly.
- Mindfulness of your karma: your words and actions each day.
For a fuller ritual, see my post on the Pitra Paksh ancestor ritual.
An ancestral Ho'oponopono prayer
Don't worry if you don't know your family's traditional Pitru Paksha practice. This prayer works for anyone. Take a copper kalash, add a little rice (akshat) and black sesame seeds, and say:
I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you, all seven ancestral lineages of my paternal and maternal family.
Chant it 7, 11 or 21 times. Acknowledging your lineage helps you move out of family blockages, align with your ancestral gifts and become a torchbearer for the generations to come. If the four phrases are new to you, read my guide to Ho'oponopono.
A three-card reading on ancestral healing
- The gift: Six of Wands. Perseverance and triumph after hardship. You carry the strength of survivors and achievers, and they want you to own your victories with humility and confidence.
- The advice: Four of Cups. Do not numb yourself to the emotional lessons of your lineage. Wounds often repeat because they were never acknowledged. Pause, reflect and look at what feels uncomfortable with honesty.
- The message: The Hermit. The healing path is inward. Seek wisdom in stillness, meditation and self-inquiry, and let guidance come through intuition, dreams and silence.
Honouring your ancestors on Amavasya
"I honour my ancestors. May this message reach the souls who are meant to remember."
On every Amavasya, light a candle or a mustard or sesame oil diya in front of your ancestral altar, or in the south direction, to connect with your ancestors and receive their blessings.
This Amavasya ritual works with the same idea: tapping into your lineage's wisdom and claiming its gifts.
Asking your angels and ancestors for guidance
Breathe in deeply, and hold the question you want guidance on. Then choose Deck A or Deck B and watch the reading.
Frame your question for guidance, not a yes or no. The three cards answered in sequence:
- Meditation brings answers. Do some simple breathwork, sit in a calm space and connect to your ancestors and angels or your Isht Devta. A message, a call or a sign through nature may arrive.
- Don't stop. If no guidance comes, keep connecting every day.
- Get more information. Gather information and do your research before making a final call.
What ancestral healing is not
This is spiritual and reflective work. It does not replace therapy, medical care, or legal or financial advice, and no pattern makes you or your family "cursed". Be gentle with yourself.
Working on your lineage together
