Are you filling a void, or ready for love?

18-Oct-2026

"When will I meet the right person?" is one of the questions I hear most often. Before we look at timing, I like to ask a different question first: are you looking for love, or looking for something to fill an empty space?

Both are human. But they lead to very different relationships.

Filling a void

Sometimes we reach for a relationship because we feel lonely, unworthy or afraid of being left behind. We hope someone else will make us feel whole. Some signs this might be happening:

  • You feel you need a partner to feel okay about yourself.
  • You find yourself rushing, or staying in relationships that don't feel right because being alone feels worse.
  • You keep attracting the same kind of person, with the same painful ending.
  • An old hurt or a past relationship still takes up a lot of space in your thoughts.

None of this means something is wrong with you. It simply means there is some healing to do first, so that the next relationship can be built on choice rather than need.

Ready for love

When we are ready, we want a partner to share our life with, not to complete it. Some signs:

  • You enjoy your own company and have a life you value.
  • You know what you want, and what you won't accept.
  • You can give and receive without keeping score.
  • You have made peace, or are making peace, with your past.

Questions to reflect on

Take a quiet moment with a notebook and ask yourself:

  1. What do I hope a relationship will give me that I don't have now?
  2. Can I give some of that to myself?
  3. What pattern do I see in my past relationships?
  4. What would a healthy, loving relationship feel like, day to day?

Be honest and kind with yourself as you answer.

Gentle ways to prepare

  • Release the past. Practices like Ho'oponopono help let go of old hurt and resentment.
  • Fill your own cup. Spend time on what nourishes you: friends, creativity, rest, your spiritual practice.
  • Get clear. Write down the qualities and values you want in a partner, and the ones you want to bring yourself.
  • Stay open. Readiness is not perfection. You don't have to be fully "healed" to love and be loved.

In the video above I talk about the difference between filling the void and being ready for love.

If you'd like guidance

Sometimes it helps to see the bigger picture: your patterns, what is blocking you and when the timing is supportive. In a relationships and marriage consultation we can look at this together, with your chart or the cards. You are also welcome to send me a message first.

Whenever you're ready, I'm here

Bring the question that's been on your mind. We'll talk it through, one-to-one, and you'll leave knowing your next step.
