How to cleanse your energy and your home: simple daily and weekly rituals

07-May-2026

Some days we wake up tired for no clear reason. A room feels heavy, a conversation leaves us drained, or we come home and can't settle. In energy work we would say our field has picked up more than it needs to carry. The good news is that cleansing doesn't have to be complicated. Most of what I use and teach needs only water, a little salt, your voice and a few minutes of attention.

Here is my collection of cleansing practices, for you and for your home.

What "cleansing" means

Every tradition I know has some form of cleansing. In India we sprinkle Ganga jal, light camphor during aarti, keep salt by the door and bathe before puja. Reiki and other energy practices speak of the aura, the field of energy around the body, which can feel bright and light or dull and heavy depending on what we have been through.

Cleansing is simply the habit of letting go of what isn't yours: other people's moods, the stress of the day, old worries that keep circling. It doesn't need fear. You are not fighting anything. You are tidying up, the way you would sweep a floor.

A water technique with switch words

Water is one of the easiest helpers for clearing. When you feel drained, or sense that something heavy is hanging around you, a simple water technique paired with switch words can help you reset.

These are the switch words I suggest. You can chant them while you shower, while you wash your hands and face, or while holding a glass of water:

  1. Cancel, cancel, cancel: to stop a thought or feeling from repeating.
  2. Divine order: to invite things to fall into their right place.
  3. Golden sunrise: to bring in fresh, warm light.
  4. Release: to let go of what you have been holding.

Say each one slowly, a few times, and imagine the water carrying the heaviness away.

A salt water or camphor rinse for the aura

This is one of the simplest weekly rituals I know, and I recommend it at least once a week, on any day that suits you.

You can do it in one of two ways:

  • In the bucket: add a little salt, ordinary or sea salt, or the powder of two or three camphor tablets to your bathing water, mix well and bathe as usual.
  • After a shower: fill a mug with water, mix in a pinch of salt or a little camphor powder, and rinse your body with it from the shoulders down.

Many people tell me they feel lighter and less drained afterwards. Keep it gentle: use only a little, keep it away from your eyes, use camphor externally only, and skip it if your skin is sensitive or broken. It is a lovely self-care ritual, but it is not a treatment, so please see a doctor for any physical or mental health concern.

A collective cleansing ritual

Sometimes it helps to cleanse alongside others. I shared a collective cleansing ritual to help shift energies towards positivity and release what is no longer serving you. Sit comfortably, follow along with the video, and let it be a few quiet minutes just for you.

Weekly Reiki protection

Reiki can be sent and received at a distance, which is why I also share short protection healings. Sit or lie down, place your hands over your heart, breathe slowly and simply be open to receiving. If you are curious how distance healing works, I have explained it in my post on distance Reiki healing.

I also shared a Thursday healing for all of us. Thursday is Guru's day, linked with Jupiter, wisdom and blessings, so it feels like a natural day to receive.

Cleansing your home with sound

Homes hold energy too. One of the easiest ways to keep yours light is sound, and you don't need to be an expert in Sanskrit.

My simple routine:

  • Morning: chant or play the Gayatri Mantra. It is a prayer to the light of the Sun for clarity and understanding, and it sets a calm, bright tone for the day.
  • Evening: chant or play the Hanuman Chalisa. Hanuman is remembered for strength, devotion and protection, and the Chalisa is a beautiful way to close the day.

Open a window while the mantra plays, light a diya or a lamp if you like, and let the sound fill each room.

Noticing energy leaks

Cleansing helps, but it helps even more when you notice where your energy goes in the first place. An energy leak is anything that drains you again and again: saying yes when you mean no, constant scrolling, unfinished tasks, conversations that leave you emptied, or old hurts you keep replaying.

Try this for a week:

  1. At the end of each day, write down the three moments when you felt most drained.
  2. Look for patterns. Is it a person, a time of day, a habit?
  3. Choose one leak to close, with one small action: a boundary, a shorter phone time, a task finished.
  4. Notice how much more energy you have for love, work and the things that matter to you.

What these practices are not

These are gentle rituals for feeling lighter and more centred. They are not a cure for illness, anxiety or depression, and they don't replace a doctor, a therapist or any professional care. If you are struggling, please reach out for that support as well.

If you'd like support

If you have been feeling heavy for a long time, a one-to-one session can help us find what is draining you and clear it together. You can book a Reiki healing session, or send me a message if you would like to talk first.

Whenever you're ready, I'm here

Bring the question that's been on your mind. We'll talk it through, one-to-one, and you'll leave knowing your next step.
