Your zodiac sign, its body part and your natural professional instincts

05-Oct-2026

Knowing yourself better is the first step to aligning with your rashi. In Vedic astrology, each of the twelve signs is connected to a part of the body and carries natural instincts, including instincts for the kind of work that suits you. When you understand both, you can lean into your strengths and work on your weaker areas with awareness.

The body of the cosmic person

The idea comes from Kalapurusha, the cosmic person. Classical texts lay the twelve signs over the human body, from the head (Aries) down to the feet (Pisces). The sign that rules a body part is said to describe its strength and sensitivity, and the qualities of that part of the body often mirror the sign's character.

Read the section for your Moon sign and your lagna (rising sign), as well as your Sun sign. If you don't know them, a kundli reading will show you.

Aries (Mesh): the head

Aries rules the head and face. Like the head, Aries likes to lead and go first. Natural professional instincts: leadership, starting new projects, sport, defence, surgery, entrepreneurship and any work that needs courage and quick decisions.

Taurus (Vrishabh): the face, throat and neck

Taurus rules the face, mouth, throat and neck. It is the sign of the voice, taste and steady values. Natural instincts: finance, banking, food, beauty, music, singing and anything that builds lasting value.

Gemini (Mithun): shoulders, arms and lungs

Gemini rules the shoulders, arms, hands and lungs: the parts we use to reach out, gesture and breathe. Natural strengths: communication, writing, media, sales, teaching, trade and any work with ideas, networks and quick thinking.

Cancer (Kark): the chest and heart

Cancer rules the chest, breasts and heart area, the place where we hold those we love. Natural instincts: caring and nurturing roles, nursing, hospitality, homemaking, real estate, food and anything that creates safety for others.

Leo (Simha): the stomach and heart

In Vedic astrology Leo rules the upper abdomen and stomach, and it is also linked with the heart and spine, the centre of strength. Natural instincts: authority, administration, government, management, performing arts and roles where you are seen and trusted to lead.

Virgo (Kanya): the intestines and waist

Virgo rules the intestines and the waist, the organs that sort and absorb. Virgo does the same with information. Natural instincts: analysis, accounts, editing, health and wellness, research, service and detailed, careful work.

Libra (Tula): the lower abdomen and kidneys

Libra rules the lower abdomen, kidneys and lower back, which keep the body in balance. Natural strengths: law, diplomacy, partnership, design, fashion, art and any work that weighs both sides and brings harmony.

Scorpio (Vrishchik): the reproductive organs

Scorpio rules the reproductive and excretory organs: the hidden places of creation, release and renewal. Natural strengths: research, investigation, psychology, healing, occult sciences, surgery and work that transforms what others avoid.

Sagittarius (Dhanu): the hips and thighs

Sagittarius rules the hips and thighs, the strongest muscles, which carry us forward on long journeys. Natural instincts: teaching, law, philosophy, religion, publishing, travel and coaching others towards a bigger vision.

Capricorn (Makar): the knees and joints

Capricorn rules the knees, bones and joints, the structure that holds us up. Natural instincts: building, engineering, administration, management, long-term planning and anything that rewards patience and discipline.

Aquarius (Kumbh): the calves and ankles

Aquarius rules the calves and ankles, which give us balance and movement. Natural strengths: technology, science, social causes, networks, innovation and work that serves groups and communities.

Pisces (Meen): the feet

Pisces rules the feet, the last part of the cosmic body and the part that touches the earth. Natural instincts: healing, spirituality, music, art, film, charity and any work that calls for compassion, imagination and intuition.

How to use this

  1. Choose your strengths. Notice which instincts in your signs feel true, and look for ways to use them more at work.
  2. Work on your weaknesses with good karma. Where you feel a lack, fill it with action and practice, not self-criticism.
  3. Care for the body part. Give a little extra attention to the area your signs rule: stretching, rest or simply awareness.

Your whole chart matters more than one sign. Planets in your 10th house, your dasha and the strength of each sign all change the picture, which is why two people of the same sign can choose very different careers.

What this is not

These are traditional astrological associations. They don't diagnose or predict illness, and they don't replace a doctor or career counselling. If something in your body concerns you, please see a doctor.
