Lal Kitab remedies: simple, practical, and never expensive

13-Sep-2026

If you have heard of Lal Kitab, it was probably because of its remedies: feeding a cow, keeping a silver square in your wallet, floating something in flowing water. They can sound unusual at first. Here is what Lal Kitab actually is, and why I love working with it.

What is Lal Kitab?

Lal Kitab means "the red book". It is a set of Urdu texts on astrology and palmistry written in Punjab in the 1940s, traditionally associated with Pandit Roop Chand Joshi. It draws on Vedic astrology but reads the chart in its own distinctive way, and it is best known for its practical, low-cost remedies.

How it differs from classical Vedic astrology

  • The houses are fixed. Lal Kitab treats the first house as Aries, the second as Taurus and so on, and focuses mainly on which house each planet sits in.
  • Each planet has its own "house of affection". Planets are read in terms of how comfortable or troubled they are in a given house.
  • Remedies come first. Rather than long rituals or costly gemstones, Lal Kitab offers small actions you can do in everyday life.

What Lal Kitab remedies look like

Lal Kitab remedies (upay) are usually simple acts connected to the planet that needs support. For example, depending on the chart, they might include:

  • Feeding birds, dogs, cows or fish
  • Giving away particular foods or items on a specific day
  • Keeping a small object, such as a piece of silver, with you
  • Respecting particular relationships: your father, mother, siblings or elders
  • Habits such as wearing a certain colour, or avoiding certain foods

These are only general examples. A remedy that helps one person can be wrong for another, which is why they should always come from your chart.

The golden rules

Over the years I have seen people come to harm by doing remedies carelessly. These are the rules I follow and share with everyone:

  1. One remedy at a time. Do it consistently, usually for 40 or 43 days, before adding another.
  2. Daytime only, from sunrise to sunset, unless told otherwise.
  3. Don't copy someone else's remedy. It was meant for their chart, not yours.
  4. Stop if a remedy feels wrong, and check with your astrologer.
  5. Remedies should cost very little. That is the whole spirit of Lal Kitab.
Five golden rules for Lal Kitab remedies: one at a time, 40 to 43 days, in daylight, your chart only, and costing very little

A word of caution

If someone tells you that you must buy expensive stones, pay for elaborate pujas or spend large amounts to "fix" your chart, please pause. Lal Kitab is meant to be accessible to everyone. In my sessions, any remedy I suggest is simple, optional and never sold to you.

Remedies are also not a substitute for effort or for professional help. They support you while you do the practical work in your life.

Is Lal Kitab right for you?

Lal Kitab is a good fit if you want practical, everyday steps rather than lengthy explanations, or if you're going through a difficult phase, such as Sade Sati, and want something gentle to do alongside it.

You can book a Lal Kitab consultation to have your chart read and receive remedies chosen for you, explained clearly in plain language.
