Switchwords: what they are and how to use them

08-Oct-2026

A switchword is a short word or phrase you repeat, aloud, silently or in writing, to switch your mind onto one clear intention. They are simple, quick and easy to fit into a busy day, which is why so many people love them.

Where switchwords come from

The idea was popularised by the American writer James T. Mangan in his 1963 book The Secret of Perfect Living. He suggested that single words, repeated with feeling, could bring the conscious and subconscious mind into agreement, so that we stop working against ourselves. Later teachers, including Shunyam Adhikari, expanded the lists and combined words into phrases.

The core idea is close to that of a mantra or an affirmation: what we repeat with belief, we begin to notice, act on and become.

How to use a switchword

  1. Choose one switchword or phrase for one intention. Don't mix five at once.
  2. Sit quietly for a moment and picture what you want as already happening.
  3. Repeat the switchword slowly, at least 21 times, or for as long as feels right. Some people count on a mala.
  4. You can also write it, for example 12 times in a notebook each day.
  5. Let it go afterwards. Repetition with belief and a calm, clear picture matters more than effort or anxiety.

Shreem Breeze: shifting your wealth frequency

Shreem is the seed sound of Lakshmi, the goddess of abundance. Shreem Breeze is a phrase many people chant to cleanse old patterns around money and invite a lighter flow of wealth. Chant it every day, or especially on Fridays, which belong to Venus and to Lakshmi. I like to pair it with two switchword phrases:

  • Divine Magic Begins Now
  • Divine Count Now

Ridiculous Scheme, Divine Count Now and number codes

When you need a quick boost of energy, for example while waiting on payments for your business, some people chant "Ridiculous Scheme" at least 21 times a day, for as many days as feels right.

For steadier, consistent flow from different sources, and to keep gently shifting towards an abundance mindset, chant "Divine Count Now" every day, 21 times or more.

Some people also write the number sequence 71588, used as an intention for attracting good, well-paying clients, in their account book or bill book.

Releasing scarcity

Switchwords work best when the intention underneath is clear. Before you chant for money, it helps to notice the scarcity thoughts you carry, and to choose a phrase that releases them rather than one that comes from panic. I write more about this in money mindset.

Venus, Fridays and self-care

In astrology, Venus (Shukra) rules beauty, love, comfort and luxury, and Friday is its day. Many people choose Friday for Lakshmi rituals and for any practice that asks for more ease, sweetness or self-worth in life.

The same spirit applies to self-care: hair, skin and how we look after our bodies. A switchword can be a lovely way to make a daily care routine more mindful. Please remember that it supports good care and does not replace a dermatologist or doctor if you have a concern.

Clarity starts with your space

Organise your outer environment and your inner environment follows. If your desk, room or phone feels chaotic, your thoughts often do too. Clear one small space, then choose a switchword for clarity and priorities before you start your work.

Patience and universal timing

Not everything arrives when we want it to. Switchwords can also help with patience. In December 2025 I suggested writing Divine Magic Begins Now 12 times a day from 12 to 21 December. You can use the same idea at any time: choose a set number of days, write the phrase each day, and trust that the results will be worth the wait.

What switchwords are not

Switchwords are a tool for focus and intention. They are not magic spells, they do not guarantee any result, and they never replace practical action, medical care or professional financial advice. Think of them as a way to keep your mind pointed in the right direction while you do the work. If you enjoy number-based practices, you may also like how to calculate your life path number.
